Overview

This 11-day tour is perfect for you and travelers who are short on time. You will visit the main highlights of Peru. We start with a visit to the Tambopata National Reserve, located in the Madre de Dios region. Here you will take a boat trip up the river and enjoy nature to the fullest, with the opportunity to observe wild animals and the lush flora of the living Amazon. You will then fly to Cusco, the imperial city of the Incas. There you will have a day to acclimatize and at the same time explore the city with its markets, handicraft centers and museums. You will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Ollantaytambo, the living Inca village, and of course our special highlight: the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu. Throughout the trip, you will experience the daily life of the locals first hand, visit local markets and admire the colorful landscape and the majestic Andes in southern Peru. In Puno, our Quechua-Aymara city, you will board a boat to explore the highest navigable lake in the world: Lake Titicaca, and the floating islands of the Uros. You will enjoy a typical lunch in a modest restaurant with impressive views of Lake Titicaca.

NEW MACHU PICCHU REGULATIONS
Please be advised that new regulations are in place for all visitors to Machu Picchu, requiring that various tours be completed within the site to reduce overcrowding.
Tickets for these tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Peak season: The peak tourist season (April to October) is the time of year when most tourists visit Machu Picchu. Therefore, it is necessary to book the Inca Trail at least 4 months in advance and subject to availability.
MIX TRIP Please be advised that this tour involves combining activities with other travellers. Therefore, you may share the tour with staff and other travellers.All travellers are required to pay a tax on domestic flights in Peru, while foreign travellers are exempt from this requirement.
YELLOW FEBER
Upon entering the country you are visiting, you may be required to present a yellow fever certificate. We advise you to consult your local health professional about yellow fever and other vaccinations required for this area.
WET SEASON
Please be advised that the railway line may be partially closed during heavy rainfall (January - April) due to the rainy season.
Peru's protocols may require proof of dual vaccination against COVD-19 to board domestic flights and trains, as well as to access restaurants, museums and attractions.

Daily itinerary

Day 1 Lima

Arrival and welcome meeting.
Today the adventure begins! You have time to explore on your own, but please don't forget to arrive on time with your group. After the welcome, your German-speaking tour guide will discuss all the details of your trip. Normal check-in times apply in our starting hotels. However, there is luggage storage in the hotel if you arrive earlier.

Day 2 Lima - Tambopata National Park.

Flight to Puerto Maldonado, located in the tropical forest of the Amazon lowlands, and continue by motorized boat to the comfortable and exclusive Tambopata Lodge. After a short stop in the city to store larger luggage, you will continue to the pier and then take a covered motorboat to the jungle lodge. On the way, you can observe bird species typical of the river bank or the edge of the forest. The Tambopata rainforest holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one region. Most of the lodge's staff are from the local community. This includes multilingual nature guides. Here you have the opportunity to not only learn about the lush flora and fauna of the region, but also learn about the many practical ways in which various medicinal plants and other plant resources of the forest are used using traditional methods for building, fishing and hunting. At night we take an exciting jungle walk in the dark! Accommodation: Tambopata Ecolodge

Day 3 Tambopata National Park

After an excellent buffet breakfast, we set off early to explore the jungle at its wildest (and coolest). After a slow walk through the forest and trying to spot wildlife, and a short morning boat ride, we set off to explore Lake Condenado by canoe. Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, the wetlands are some of the best places in the forest for birdwatching and viewing a variety of aquatic and terrestrial animals. As we continue, we see tree species such as the strangler fig tree and the mighty kapok towering high above the treetops. Back at the ecolodge, after an excellent buffet lunch in our restaurant, you will have time to hike on your own on our extensive trail system, explore our gardens, or take a dip in our nearby swimming hole where you can enjoy the cool waters of the Gallocunca stream. Or you can simply relax in a hammock on the veranda of your cabin.
After the buffet dinner, your guide will give a talk about the caiman species found in the forests of Tambopata. After that, we will go in search of caiman and other nocturnal species of the rainforest that fill the night air of the tropical forest with their sounds.

Day 4 Tambopata - Cusco

Our stay in the Amazon forest ends on this third day, enjoy a delicious Amazonian breakfast for the last time before taking the motorboat and minibus back to the airport. On the way you can enjoy a magical morning trip back on the river to your flight from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco. This is an excellent time of day for wildlife watching as the forest awakens and observing the rainforest fauna from our boat with the help of your naturalist guide is the perfect way to say goodbye to the tropical forests of Peru. Welcome to Cusco, capital of the Incas, today you have time to visit the surroundings of the city, e.g. museums, the picturesque San Pedro market, Plaza de Armas or simply enjoy a good cup of coffee in the courtyard of the hotel. Motor canoe Tambopata – Puerto Maldonado 3 hours

Day 5 Valle Sagrado - Aguas Calientes

After breakfast we head to Ollantaytambo village, the only living Inca city. On the way we will see different sights of the Inca Sacsayhuaman, as well as the viewpoint over the Cusco city and the Sacred Valley (Valle Sagrado). After lunch we visit the Ollantaytambo town and enjoy a guided tour of the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, Inca terraces and warehouses. In the afternoon we head to the village of Aguas Calientes. Accommodation: Vilas Hotel Aguas Calientes. Meal included: Breakfast, lunch.

Day 6 Machu Picchu Citadel - Cusco

Early morning is the right time to admire the majestic Machu Picchu and take a short walk to Inti Punku (the Sun Gate). A walk along these ancient paths takes us back to the Inca era. Here we will visit the Temple of the Sun, the Sundial, the Temple of the Condor and others. We will also visit the Inti Watana Altar, a magnificent site in the heart of Machu Picchu. Take a guided tour of the ruins of temples, palaces and residential quarters and then enjoy free time to hike on your own before the group returns to Cusco. After the Machu Picchu tour we will meet at Aguas Calientes Pueblo. Breakfast time: At 5am Bus departure: At 5:30am Train departure: At 2pm Accommodation: Hotel Estancia San Pedro (or similar).

Day 7 Cusco - Free days

Today is your free day. Enjoy the colonial atmosphere, the heart and soul of Peru. You can visit the many museums and archaeological sites. Enjoy your last free day in Cusco. You can use the time to rest and rejuvenate after your hike or to explore Cusco. "If you still have energy, you can take part in one of our optional activities." Accommodation: Hotel Estancia San Pedro (or similar) Meal included: Breakfast.

Day 8 Cusco - Puno

After breakfast we will be taken to the bus station to take our bus to "Puno".
During the journey to Puno, enjoy the warm views of the Peruvian
highlands - the Altiplano - making the city a particularly attractive destination. Puno is on the
shores of Lake Titicaca, which you will explore in the coming days. The afternoon is free to explore the city on your own.

Day 9 Lake Titicaca - Uros & Taquile Island

After breakfast, we head to the port of Lake Titicaca, full of anticipation, where an unforgettable adventure awaits us. On an exciting boat trip to the floating reed islands of the Uros, we enjoy the breathtaking landscape and immerse ourselves in the fascinating culture of this unique community. Our first destination is the Uros Islands, which are located about 7 km from Puno. There we will visit two of more than 90 islands and experience the warm hospitality of the locals. We will learn more about their way of life, history, customs and the main activities such as handicrafts, tourism and traditional fishing. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover the deep-rooted traditions and joy of life of the Uros. Finally, we take a scenic walk to the main port of Taquile, where our boat is already waiting for us to take us safely back to Puno.
