Peru is a large, mysterious and extremely diverse country in South America. The three geographical regions - the Amazon jungle, the desert and the Andes - make every traveler's heart beat faster. The area around Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca city high up in the Andes, the Sacred Valley and the colonial city of Cusco, have numerous archaeological sites and magical places. In the south of Peru, the spectacular Nazca Lines fascinate and invite you to marvel. Further south, the beautiful white city of Arequipa is waiting to be explored. On the Pacific coast of Peru lies the capital Lima with a well-preserved center from the colonial era and important collections of pre-Columbian art.

More than just llamas

Peru is best known for Machu Picchu and llamas. But the land of the Incas is much more than "just" that. In fact, there is a reason why Peru is called a mega-diverse country. Peru is home to mountains, jungle, desert and the ocean.

Peru is a great holiday destination if you want to combine an active holiday with culture. In addition to world-famous sights such as the ruins of the Inca city of Machu Picchu, there is also a lot to discover in the capital Lima and the Inca Trails invite you to hike through Peru's unique landscape.

Regional Cuisine

Traditionally, staple foods in Peru are potatoes and corn. The country is even considered the origin of potatoes. Quinoa, a goosefoot plant with nut seeds, is also widespread. Chili, pepper and garlic are the main spices used. In the past, the main meat sources were llamas, alpacas and guinea pigs.

The Silk of Peru

Peru has a long tradition of cotton cultivation and textile production. Farmers have passed on knowledge of growing and caring for Pima cotton over generations, resulting in high-quality harvests. Due to its exceptional quality, Pima cotton is used in a wide variety of areas.
